Watercare is constructing a public water and wastewater system to support the growing populations of Kumeu-Huapai and Riverhead.
Phase 1 of the Kumeu-Huapai Riverhead project was the retrofit of the Huapai Wastewater Treatment Plant (completed July 2010). Phase 2 was the construction of the pump station at Riverhead and the main wastewater pipeline – the trunk pressurised system which will connect Kumeu-Huapai and Riverhead to the wastewater pipeline at Whenuapai. Both the trunk pipeline and Riverhead pump station are now complete.
Phase 3 of the project, construction of the Kumeu-Huapai and Riverhead local wastewater reticulation – the network of pipes that collects wastewater from each property – began in August 2011. Allowing for any slippage in the consents process or construction, the first connections to the public wastewater system will be available from July 2012.
Availability of the public water system has been dependent on completion of the new SH16. The new bulk water supply main will be constructed along the old SH16 route, and NZTA required Watercare to programme its work to avoid serious traffic congestion while the new SH16 was constructed. Watercare has now begun working on design, tendering and consenting for the new watermain. Completion of this project is likely to be December 2013.
Watercare’s north western infrastructure project – of which Kumeu-Huapai Riverhead is a part – has a number of different components. When complete, the north western trunk sewer and pump stations will carry wastewater for treatment from Kumeu-Huapai Riverhead to either the Mangere or Rosedale wastewater treatment plants.
Connecting to the new system
The public wastewater system will be available to properties in Kumeu-Huapai and Riverhead from July 2012. If a 2010 Rodney wastewater connection agreement has been signed for your property, Watercare will let you know when the system is available. If a 2010 Rodney wastewater connection agreement has not been signed for your property, you will need to contact Watercare to arrange for the connection to be made. There are a number of things you need to do to connect to the new system.
