Project Hobson

Watercare has replaced the ageing sewer pipe that crossed Hobson Bay, pictured below, with a three-kilometre-long tunnel that connects to a new pump station in the Orakei Domain. The project is now in its final stage - the ageing sewer pipe has been demolished and the construction areas are being reinstated.

The new tunnel and pump station provide for population growth in the area and will also increase recreational opportunities in the bay. The extra capacity they provide mean that wet weather overflows from this part of the network into Hobson Bay will virtually be eliminated.
