Watercare approval is required for extensions to the water and wastewater networks associated with subdividing or developing your property. Network extensions will usually be approved as part of your resource consent application. However for large subdivisions, you may obtain Watercare prior approval.
Our existing water and wastewater networks can be viewed using the Auckland Council GIS Viewer. You will need to add a layer called “LiveMaps/UndergroundServices” to the map content.
Approval processes
If you wish to apply for a Watercare approval prior to your resource consent application, please complete the Engineering Approval Form for a Network Extension and submit this to Watercare with the proposed water and wastewater plans.
Alternatively, you may submit your proposed water and wastewater plans as part of your resource consent.
Compliance and connection process
Once your network extension application has been approved and you have obtained your resource consent from Auckland Council, you will be required to contact us regarding construction, acceptance testing, and to connect the new network to our existing network.
Please complete the Engineering Compliance Application Form for a Network Extension and submit this to Watercare to request a pre-construction meeting.
All extensions to Watercare’s water and wastewater networks must be designed and constructed in accordance with Watercare’s engineering standards.
In order to comply with Watercare’s health and safety requirements, all connections to our water and wastewater networks and to must be carried out by an approved contractor.
Wastewater connection restrictions
The majority of areas in the Auckland region have capacity for further development. However, certain pockets are now nearing their capacity. These areas have restrictions preventing further extensions to the networks.
