Using Water Wisely

Auckland has its fair share of rain, so why the need to save water?

Save money

Customers pay for every drop they use. By using less water you will be able to save money on your water and wastewater bill and even your energy bill if using less hot water.

Plan for population growth

With increases in demand for water due to population growth, expanding the water supply - including dams and reservoirs, pipelines, and water treatment infrastructure - will eventually need to be carried out. A reduction in water consumption would delay the need for future water sources and could result in lower costs for customers.

Reduce wastewater

Every day, Auckland households and businesses discharge around 380 million litres of wastewater to one of 21 wastewater treatment plants located around the Auckland region. Using less water can reduce the volume of wastewater that needs to be treated and discharged into the harbours and waterways.

Decrease greenhouse gases

Reduced water use will decrease the amount of energy needed to pump and treat water. The greenhouse gases released from fossil fuels used to generate this energy will therefore be reduced.
