Curriculum links

The New Zealand Curriculum identifies five key competencies:

  • thinking
  • using language, symbols, and texts
  • managing self
  • relating to others
  • participating and contributing

Watercare’s educational water lessons all incorporate practical sessions, field trips or experiments. These activities are carried out in pairs or small groups sometimes involving parent helpers. Students are given opportunities to practise, develop and hone their key competency skills during these practical sessions and afterwards by using the supporting materials. Information regarding how the lessons link to the New Zealand Curriculum are included on each lesson page.
