Central Interceptor teams commemorate St Barbara’s Day

On 4th December, Watercare staff were invited to Mangere construction site to join our contractor, Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV), to recognise the patron saint of tunnellers and miners. The team dedicated statuettes of St Barbara which will now be on view at three project sites.

Say goodbye to the old storage tanks

One minute they’re there, next minute they’re not! Deconstruction of our old storage tanks at Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant was captured on camera and it makes for spectacular viewing. Check out the video below and keep your eye on the two large black and grey tanks. The tanks have been deconstructed to make way for a new pump station.

Over 75% of the material was able to be reused rather than sent to landfill, which is a fantastic result for our first stage of construction.

Minister for the Environment Hon. David Parker stops by

On 15th November, Hon. David Parker stopped by our Māngere Central Interceptor construction site to hear about the project. The Minister was shown around the construction site by our team and contractor Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture.

Once fully constructed the Central Interceptor tunnel will reduce the volume of wastewater overflowing into waterways and onto beaches by up to 80 per cent.
