St Mary's Bay wastewater

We're upgrading a wastewater chamber to improve network capacity and reduce overflows.
Start – finish: 20 January – June 2020
Location: Hackett Street, St Mary's Bay
Status: Construction

COVID-19

Due to the Government shutdown in response to COVID-19, we will be closing the Hackett St project for four weeks. The wellbeing of our teams, stakeholders and community remains the priority. Our team will be out on site today (Wednesday 25th March) making sure everything is safe and secure before the official shutdown comes into effect. If you would like to contact the team during the shutdown, please in the first instance email casper.kruger@water.co.nz.

What’s happening?

We are upgrading a wastewater chamber in front of houses 5, 16 and 20 Hackett Street. This upgrade will provide essential safe access to the network for maintenance crews, and reduce the health and safety risks associated with the current infrastructure. This will improve network capacity and reduce the chance of future blockages and overflows.

To minimise interruption we are undertaking a one dig approach and carrying out works on the stormwater and water networks at the same time. We will divert the stormwater network around the new site, upgrade the watermain and relocate a gas main.

Works are being undertaken in two stages:
Stage 1:
The upgrade of the existing watermain and relocation of the gas and watermains adjacent to the new chamber.

Stage 2:
Construction of the chamber and accompanying works will be installed from mid-February to early June 2020.

Working hours are 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Traffic management

During construction, Hackett Street will be closed to through traffic. Access to properties will be maintained, however, this will need to be from a specific road entrance as shown on the map below.
Hackett Street St Marys Bay traffic management
  • On Hackett Street, property numbers 18+ along with residents residing in Swift Avenue, Percival Parade, Amiria Street and Ring Terrace will need to access their properties via Shelly Beach Road.
  • Hackett street property numbers 16 and under will need to access their properties via Saint Mary's Road.
  • A number of street parks will be removed around the construction site for the duration of the works.
  • Traffic controllers will be on-site during work hours to assist residents.
