Wynyard Quarter and Halsey Street wastewater upgrades

We are increasing network capacity to accommodate growth in Wynyard Quarter.

Start-finish:  November 2016 – March 2018 (pump station) June 2017 – November 2017 (Halsey Street pipeline)
Location: Halsey Street pipeline installation and Wynyard Quarter Pump Station, corner of Daldy Street and Pakenham Street West
Status: Construction

What’s happening?

The Wynyard Quarter redevelopment is one of New Zealand’s largest and most high-profile urban renewal projects. The current wastewater system is not sufficient to service this proposed development.

Upgrades to the network to cater for the growth will include a new pump station in Wynyard Common and pipeline between Fanshawe Street and Drake Street.

What are the benefits?

  • Upgrades will allow for future population growth
  • Reduce overflows during wet weather affects

How will this work affect you?

Local wastewater network upgrades are underway in response to growth in Wynyard Quarter. The final stage of works is the construction of a short section of pipeline at the Wellesley Street/Drake Street intersection. Traffic management will be in place during construction.

During January and February 2018:
• Left turn lanes from Wellesley and Drake streets into Victoria Street West will be closed
• Pedestrian access will be maintained
• Local businesses will remain open and accessible
