To us, sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. To do so, we focus on some practical initiatives to deliver better outcomes in environmental, social, cultural, and economic sustainability.

As well as delivering significant environmental benefits such as cleaning up our waterways, CI is committed to leaving our construction sites and their surrounds in a better condition than when we arrived. For example, one of our commitments includes planting twice as many trees as we remove from parks and reserves. In addition, we work with local community groups along our tunnel route, supporting their preservation and restoration initiatives where we can.

We also have a very practical plan to improve the health of lava rock forests along the tunnel route, particularly near Meola Creek. For more details on our plans, initiatives and practical actions in the areas of sustainability and the environment, explore the sections below.
