Planning, design and consents

At this stage of your project you must be aware of our requirements and those associated with Auckland Council. These include:

  • Applying to the Council for resource consent and engineering approval

  • Providing evidence that your proposed design complies with our engineering standards. Learn more: Compliance statements

We strongly recommend that you consult a civil engineer before applying to the Council.

For more information, see the Water Supply and Wastewater Network Bylaw 2015. This bylaw covers the public water supply network and wastewater network across the entire Auckland region.

The purpose of the bylaw is to:

  • Protect the water supply network and wastewater network from damage, misuse and interference;
  • Assist in the provision of reliable, safe and efficient water supply and wastewater services in Auckland; and
  • Protect the environment and the health of people using the water supply or wastewater network.
