Stage 4 residential water restrictions mean no drinking water is to be used outdoors

At home

What this means for residents on the metropolitan network

You cannot use any drinking water outside. This means:
  • You cannot use sprinklers, irrigation systems or hoses
  • You cannot fill up your swimming pool
  • You cannot use mains water for cleaning your car
  • If you want to water your garden, you must use collected rainwater or greywater from inside your home.

Stage 4 commercial water restrictions mean no drinking water can be used outdoors. The only exemption is for health and safety purposes.

At work

What this means for commercial water users on the metropolitan network

  • You can use an outdoor hose or water blaster only for health, safety, emergency or biosecurity reasons
  • You can only operate a car wash if it uses 100% recycled water
  • You cannot water sports fields, plants or paddocks.
