Our work towards becoming a fully sustainable organisation is making its mark on the green scene.

We are in the running for two awards at the NZI Sustainably Business Networks Awards, which recognise and celebrate success in sustainability.

It’s the first year we have entered the awards.

Watercare is a finalist in the Revolutionising Energy category for our energy neutrality plan, which aims to make our Rosedale and Māngere wastewater treatment plants energy-neutral by the end of 2025.

Central Interceptor sustainability advisor Olivia Philpott is a finalist in the Millennial on a Mission category for her work on sustainability and the difference she’s made to our climate change work.

Head of water value Roseline Klein says it is important to spread the message that Watercare is a place of innovation, growth and revolution.

“Olivia’s journey sends a fantastic signal to all the young people in our organisation and out there, that they can shape the future of Auckland and the way we deliver vital public services. Similarly, energy neutrality is also a story of people with bright and sustainable ideas, turning the business on its head and we thank them for that.”

Olivia was recently appointed to the sustainability advisor role after working in the environment and consent team as a resource consents planner.

Along with championing sustainability in her team, she led the design of 10 climate change workshops held with staff to look at how Watercare will be affected by climate change and what actions are needed to address it.

“I feel very honoured to be amongst some of the most innovative entrepreneurs in New Zealand sustainability,” says Olivia, of being an award finalist.

“It’s a chance to show that young people can make a positive difference in a large, established organisation. I’m also very thankful to Roseline for nominating me and to Watercare for enabling and promoting sustainability.”

The awards dinner is on 22 November.
