Whenuapai and Redhills wastewater project

Wastewater upgrades are required to cater for development.

Why is the project needed?  

The project involves new wastewater infrastructure to service growth in the northwest future urban zones. The main project works will take place in the Whenuapai, Redhills areas and along SH18. The proposed work is known as the Whenuapai wastewater servicing scheme.  

The proposal

The project comprises of the following:

  • Gravity pipelines in southern Redhills.

  • A new pump station, rising main and gravity pipeline located in Whenuapai.

  • Two rising main diversions in Whenuapai.

  • A new tunnel from Westgate to Hobsonville. The new wastewater tunnel will be constructed using micro-tunnel boring and will be at a depth of approximately 20 meters underground.

What is happening now?  

The team is getting ready to begin the project later this year. The high-level dates for the proposed works are as follows:  

  • Package 1: Mid 2024 - early 2026  

  • Package 2: Mid 2024 - late 2026

  • Package 3: Early 2024 - early 2025
