Project milestone
Domenica our micro-TBM has completed her work. She will be removed from the shaft at Mt Albert War Memorial Reserve and go for refurbishment while a decision is made on her future. She's bored two important link sewers in the western Auckland isthmus: one 3.1km from Mt Roskill to Avondale and the second 1.1km along Meola Creek in Mt Albert. These sewers will take the pressure off ageing infrastructure, with wastewater flows from the west soon to be redirected into the main tunnel. In terms of that main tunnel, Hiwa-i-te-Rangi has completed almost 11km of the 16.2km she will bore in total. She’s broken through into the shaft at Lyon Ave in Sandringham, with Western Springs now in sight.
