New water treatment plant for Warkworth

Projects, 8/05/2017

Construction of a new water treatment plant for Warkworth began on Monday 1 May with a site blessing on Hudson Road.

Watercare’s new water treatment plant will use groundwater to supply the population of Warkworth. Construction of the plant is expected to be complete in 2018.

Watercare’s water supply manager Priyan Perera said this was a significant milestone for the local community and will ensure a safe and reliable supply of high-quality water for Warkworth now and into the future.

“We are aiming to have it completed by the middle of 2018, hopefully faster. We have a good construction and design team on board and they are focused on making it happen quickly," Perera said.

The occasion was marked with a blessing by Ngati Manuhiri's Ringi Brown and witnessed by Rodney local board chairwoman Beth Houlbrooke.

The new plant will replace the existing one at Brown Road which draws water from the Mahurangi River.
