Water pressure to return to normal in central-west Auckland

3/12/2019
Water pressure is expected to return to normal in central-west areas of Auckland today as the team works on permanent repairs to a broken watermain in Arch Hill Scenic Reserve, Grey Lynn.

The 550mm diameter pipe broke yesterday morning and contractors spent the day working on temporary repairs after first isolating the affected section.

Considerable effort was put into re-configuring water flows to ensure that there were no outages. Watercare head of service delivery Simon Porter says the diversion plans were very effective: “We are very pleased that no customers were without water, and the pressure only dipped slightly during the peak demand periods of yesterday evening and early this morning.

“We’d like to thank Aucklanders for reducing unnecessary consumption whilst we dealt with this emergency.”

Permanent pipe repairs will be completed later today and water pressures will then slowly return to normal levels.

Damage done to paths and any other areas within the scenic reserve will also be repaired.
