Meet operator Kacey Sika

Hear from operator Kacey Sika about what he loves most about working at Watercare:

What’s one word you would use to describe Watercare?

I feel like Watercare invested a lot of myself and my studies.

What does an operator do?

As an operator your day-to-day task is pretty much just being the eyes and ears for the guys in control room and then we make the necessary adjustments and approaches accordingly.

How would you describe the culture at Watercare?

The team here, they're passionate about their work and their services for the community as well as their people. I guess you could call it like a family oriented cultur.

Everyone’s different and I feel like that kind of makes a good team for people to just come to work and be themselves.

What advice would you give someone wanting to work at Watercare?

I'd say be open minded and be willing to learn. You’ve got to be confident because there's so many opportunities. Just got to believe in yourself and put yourself out there.

They teach you everything, and I feel like when you need a hand, someone's always there. There's no limit to learning and there's so much room to improve. The sky is the limit I guess.

Is there anything about the being an operator that surprised you before starting here?

We generate biogas here, so we have about four engines and the amount of gas that we generate can power 50% of the plant.

I mean, that’s something I've never come across, probably the most dangerous thing that we work with its gas because I was afraid of it I had to learn and work with it, and now I’m just comfortable working with it. So that's my day to day thing.

What is your favourite part about working at Watercare?

Every day is a challenge. That's probably my favourite part, is coming here, nothing is repetitive and also the company always throws barbeques. So I always look forward to that.
