Meet project manager Lucy McCallum

Hear from project manager Lucy McCallum about what she loves most about working at Watercare:

You know you work for Watercare when…

You know you work at Watercare when you are driving around Auckland and pointing out all the air valves to your family.

What opportunities have had here that you didn’t expect?

When I first started project management I was given the privilege of the Orakei main sewer project. Firstly, never thought I would work on a sewer that was over 110 years old.

But the history and what I learned about the construction method of that sewer was awesome.

What’s your favourite part about working at Watercare?

My favourite part about working for Watercare is the people.

There's so many great people here and I've made some of my best friends for life here.

Can you tell me what a project manager does?

A project manager does everything you could possibly think of and more. Stakeholders, consenting, design, construction, liaising with all different types of people, the list is endless.

What’s one way you have seen Watercare make a difference?

I love the fact that we can go out and do a project and we might be disruptive for a few weeks or a few months or what a couple of years, but people flush the toilet and it goes, People turn the tap on and it works.

And when you finish a project, you know that you've made an impact and you know that you've reduced wastewater overflows, or increased capacity or whatever it might be, and it's buried, but you know.

That's my favourite bit.
