Major Infrastructure and Southern Section Completion
Explore the complex engineering above and below ground as critical infrastructure takes shape and the southern tunnel is completed.
With tunnelling progressing steadily north, the team focused on constructing key above-ground and underground infrastructure. At Māngere, pumps, generators, electrical systems, and odour control facilities were installed. Complex works such as the confluence chamber and live network connections were successfully completed. By the end of 2024, the southern section of the tunnel was fully inspected, isolated with bulkheads, and declared ready for operation in early 2025, a major milestone after five years of construction.
