Project Overview

Watercare is planning upgrades to parts of the wastewater network across Helensville as part of our Wastewater Renewals Programme.

This project follows on from earlier investigations of the network and will help improve the reliability and performance of Helensville's wastewater system.

We will be carrying out targeted renewal of approximately 4 kilometres of ageing wastewater pipelines across the township.

Works are expected to include:

  • Closed-circuit television (CCTV) pipe inspections to assess pipe condition
  • Renewal of selected sections of wastewater pipe, primarily using low-dig (trenchless) methods where suitable

Benefits

These upgrades will help:

  • Improve the reliability of the wastewater network
  • Reduce groundwater entering the wastewater system
  • Improve network performance during wet weather
  • Help protect local waterways and the environment
  • Extend the life of important wastewater infrastructure

What we are doing

The project involves targeted wastewater renewals at a number of locations across Helensville.

While most work is expected to use trenchless construction methods where practical, some excavation and localised construction activity may still be required.

Project planning, contractor procurement and consenting activities are currently underway.

What happens next

We are currently in the planning phase of the project.

A contractor is expected to be appointed following the procurement process, after which construction timing and methodologies will be confirmed.

Construction is currently anticipated to begin from September/October 2026, with works continuing into 2027.

Residents and businesses directly affected by the works will receive advance notice before construction begins.
