Project overview
We’re building a new wastewater pump station and upgrading the existing pipe network to support Kāinga Ora housing development in Māngere East and future growth in Buckland, Wickman and Favona. By upgrading the network, we’re increasing our network’s capacity and improving water quality by reducing wet-weather overflows.
We are installing:
- A pump station on Archboyd Avenue
- Emergency storage
- 1.5km wastewater pipe
- An emergency overflow point

How will this work affect you?
Our contractors, Fulton Hogan, will use a range of construction methodologies to upgrade the network. To reduce the impacts on the community, trenchless methodologies will be used where possible.
Open trenching will take place along Buckland Road, Royton Avenue and in Te Mārua/Boggust Park.
A 1.8-metre tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be used to build the emergency storage pipeline along Archboyd Road.
Our general working hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am-6pm. On occasion, work outside of these hours may be required.
Our Te Mārua/Boggust Park working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30-6pm.
During construction hours, general construction noise, vibrations, dust and increased truck movements should be expected. These will be kept within our consented limits.
Te Mārua/Boggust Park
From mid-September 2025, works will begin in Te Mārua/Boggust Park and are expected to be finished in mid-2026.
This 400m section of pipeline will be installed by open trenching. This means we will dig a trench approximately 1.5m-2m wide and between 2m-4m deep, for us to install the pipeline and three new manholes, before we reinstate the worksite.
To access our worksite, a temporary access road will be built within the park for our vehicles and machinery. The temporary access road will connect to the park from Otago Place. Parking outside this access road is not permitted and will be clearly signposted. This road will be removed at the end of the project and all work areas will be reinstated.
A temporary footpath will be in place around the worksite while we work. Please note that the worksite in the park may change as the project progresses.
Please note, the basketball court will not be impacted and will remain open for the duration of the project.
