Why are we replacing commercial water meters?
Water meters record your water use. Our charges are based on their readings, so they’re an essential part of our network and ensure we charge customers fairly. They wear out over time, so we replace ageing units with new meters to maintain reliable performance.
From July 2026, we will begin transitioning our commercial customers to new water meters. Over the next two years, more than 38,000 meters will be replaced.
Your water meter upgrade: what to expect?
We’ll let you know before any work begins. Your business will receive a notification letter with details of when your meter replacement is scheduled.
We’ll plan the work to minimise disruption to your operations. Most installations are quick and straightforward, taking as little as 15 minutes. If the meter is in a tight space or difficult to access, or the meter box needs extra work, the upgrade may take up to an hour.
During installation, your water supply will need to be temporarily turned off for up to one hour.
What are the benefits of a new water meter?
