Dunkirk Road wastewater upgrades – Stage 2

Project overview

Over the next 50 years, the population of Panmure and the surrounding suburbs are expected to grow by more than three times due to planned development. We’re upgrading the wastewater network to support this growth and reduce wastewater overflows into the Tāmaki River.

The project is being delivered in three stages:

Stage 1

In 2024, we finished installing a new wastewater pump station on the corner of Dunkirk Road and Tangaroa Street and a wastewater pipeline along Dunkirk Road from Tangaroa Street to Johnson Reserve.

Stage 2

To connect the Tangaroa Street pump station to the eastern interceptor, we’re installing 1.3kms of wastewater pipeline, along with a new access manhole to support future maintenance.

The pipeline will run along: Riverside Avenue, Tangaroa Street, Tripoli Road, Torino Street and Pilkington Road before it connects into the eastern interceptor on private property. It will be installed using a combination of open trenching and trenchless construction methods.

Stage 2 of the Dunkirk Road Wastewater Upgrades project continues to progress, with site establishment works now complete and preparations underway for the next phase of construction.

From Monday 21 September 2026, construction will move to Tripoli Road between Tangaroa Street and Torino Street, where crews will begin installing the new wastewater pipeline connecting the Tangaroa Street Pump Station to the Eastern Interceptor. These works are expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete.

Key information:

• Location: Tripoli Road, between Tangaroa Street and Torino Street

• Start date: Monday 21 September 2026

• Duration: Approximately 8 weeks

• Working hours: 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday

• Occasional night works: 8:00pm to 5:00am, where required

• Traffic management: Tripoli Road will be closed to through traffic between Tangaroa Street and Torino Street, with signed detours in place. Traffic management will remain in place 24/7 for the duration of the works.

• Property access: Residents living adjacent to the work site may experience temporary restrictions to vehicle access. Affected residents have been notified directly and will continue to receive advance notice of upcoming activities.

• Noise and vibration: Construction activities will generate some noise and vibration. We will work to minimise these impacts and all works will be carried out in accordance with Auckland Council and consent requirements.

• Pedestrian access: Footpaths will remain open where possible.

Stage 3

In the future, we will replace approximately 500m of the existing wastewater pipeline on Dunkirk Road, south of Johnson Reserve, with a larger pipe to increase the networks capacity.
