Newmarket Wastewater Renewals

Project Overview

Watercare is planning to renew parts of the wastewater network in the Newmarket and Remuera area – see the below map with indicative scope of works.

This project is the second phase of wastewater renewals in Newmarket and builds on investigations and renewal works completed as part of Phase 1 between late 2025 and early 2026.

What will we be doing?

The project will include CCTV investigation works to confirm the condition of existing wastewater pipes and identify where renewals will be undertaken. This information will help us plan future works and determine the most suitable renewal methods. The works will renew ageing infrastructure and help ensure the wastewater network continues to provide a reliable service for the area into the future.

Where possible, we will use trenchless technology to renew the existing pipes from within. This approach reduces the need for excavation, helping to minimise disruption to people living, working and travelling through the area. In some locations, traditional open trench construction may be required; however, this will be limited to areas where it is necessary. The project will also include the refurbishment of associated manholes.
