Project overview

The original Nihotupu 1 watermain was laid around 1905 from cast-iron pipe. Water is pumped from the Titirangi Reservoirs to the Nihotupu Reservoir and supplies approximately 18,000 elevated customers in Laingholm and Titirangi.

Due to the age and condition of the existing Nihotupu 1 watermain it needs to be replaced.

The overall construction timeframe for these works are from late May until late 2025. The majority of these works are in the Titirangi area. The overall construction timeframe for these works are from late May until approximately mid-2026. These works are in the Titirangi and Glen Eden area.

Please refer to the overall site map to show the extent of the entire project.

Section of works on Scenic Drive, Kohu Road and Huia Road, Titirangi

From Tuesday 5 August 2025, our contractor March Cato and City Contractor will begin works for a watermain on a section of Scenic Drive, Huia Road and a small section of Kohu Road.

For these works we will be undertaking night works from the hours of 8pm to 5am.

Please refer to the map below showing the works area and the extent of our closure.

Traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop-go operation during the night shift. During the day access will be maintained in both directions.

These works are progressing well, and we estimate this section of works will be finished by mid to late November 2025.

Update on current works in the Titirangi area

Our contractor for the project March Cato has been busy working on various sections in the Titirangi area since late May 2025. Works include a bulk supply point on Atkinson Road and watermain construction on Kaurilands Road, Daffodil Street and Konini Road.

These works are progressing well and are on track to be completed by approximately late December 2025.

Update on additional project works in Glen Eden – Rosier Road, Solar Road, and Pisces Road

As part of the project works, we’ve identified a section of Glen Eden that requires additional watermain to be installed. With work already underway in the nearby Titirangi area, this is an opportune time to carry out these upgrades efficiently and minimise future disruption.

Watermain installation has commenced on Rosier Road, Solar Road, and Pisces Road.

These works began in late September 2025 and are expected to be completed by approximately late November 2025.

Please note, we will still need to do our final connections in this area once we finish laying the watermain. We will communicate these connections in due course.

Upcoming works in Glen Eden – Withers Road, Kashmir Road, and Nandana Drive

While working in the area we have also identified additional sections of the local water network in Glen Eden that require upgrading. These areas include Withers Road, Kashmir Road, and Nandana Drive.

By laying this additional watermain now, we can complete the work more efficiently and avoid the need to return at a later date.

This section of work is expected to begin in January 2026 and take approximately four months to complete.
