Project overview
Watercare is upgrading the wastewater infrasstructure in Red Beach with a new, larger pipeline designed to address the ongoing odour issues in the area and improve the overall performance of the wastewater network. As part of this project, a new manhole will also be constructed to enhance access for future maintenance and ensure the system remains efficient.
You’ll soon notice the arrival of our Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) rig at our worksites in Pōhutukawa Reserve and Te Ara Tahuna / Ōrewa Estuary Path. HDD is a trenchless construction method that will allow us to install the new pipeline with minimal surface disruption. This approach helps protect driveways, gardens, and other property features while reducing inconvenience to the community.

How will this project impact you?
- Work hours: Construction will take place from early October 2025 to December 2025, between 7 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday. Occasional Saturday work may be required, but we’ll notify you in advance of any changes.
- Noise: While some noise is expected during construction, it will be kept to a minimum and within the limits set by Auckland Council.
- Driveway access: There may be temporary disruptions to vehicle access as the pipeline is installed. If your access is affected, we will notify you ahead of time to help you plan accordingly.
- Worksites: A portion of Pōhutukawa Reserve and Te Ara Tahuna / Ōrewa Estuary Path will be occupied for the duration of the project. We will make every effort to minimize disruption to pedestrian access and pathways.
- Traffic impacts: While there will be minimal changes to traffic flow or road layout, you may notice an increase in construction vehicle activity in the area. Please follow the directions of traffic management staff and signage to ensure everyone’s safety.
