Project overview
Pukekohe is a growing community, with approximately 50,000 people expected to move into the area over the next 20 years. To support the existing and upcoming growth in Pukekohe North and the Paerata catchment areas, we’re building a new wastewater pump station and installing 4km of pipeline to increase capacity and improve network resilience. The project will also help to protect the environment by reducing the risk of wet weather overflows.

We’re building a new 480l/s (litres per second) transmission wastewater pump station at 50A Isabella Drive, Pukekohe.
Once complete, it will divert the wastewater flows from the existing Cape Hill and Isabella wastewater pump stations (WWPS), allowing us to decommission the aging infrastructure. It will also divert some of the wastewater flows from the Franklin Road WWPS, which will reduce the capacity issues it is currently experiencing.
For the duration of the project, our construction laydown area will be located next to this site at 50 Isabella Drive, Pukekohe.

To connect the new WWPS into the existing network, and divert the wastewater flows from the existing pump stations, we are installing 4km of new pipeline that will run along:
- Isabella Drive
- Franklin Road
- Stadium Drive
- Station Road, and
- Manukau Road.
This pipeline will be installed using a combination of open trenching and a trenchless method called Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). Wherever possible, our team will use HDD to reduce the impact to the community.
How will this affect you?
Our working hours are 7am – 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
During working hours, construction noise, vibrations, dust and increased truck movements are to be expected. We will work within our allowed limits and work to reduce the impacts as much as possible.
Our contractors, Fulton Hogan, will begin setting up their laydown area and the WWPS site in early March 2026. Before construction can begin, settlement monitoring must take place for approximately two months along the pipeline route and at some private properties next to the pump station site.
Driveway access to properties will be impacted during these works. Our contractors will contact directly impacted residents before work begins outside of their property.
An approved traffic management plan will be in place while we complete these works. You may notice the following changes:
- Contraflow or stop/go
- Reduced speed limits
- Reduced lane width
- Reduced street parking
- Traffic VMS boards
- Pedestrian detours / reduced footpath width
We appreciate that this work is disruptive and want to thank you for your patience while we complete this essential mahi.
