Project overview
Watercare is planning to renew parts of the wastewater network in Quay Street and surrounding streets within Auckland's city centre.
The project will include approximately 2.3km of CCTV investigations to confirm the condition of existing wastewater pipes and identify where renewals are needed. We expect approximately 3km of wastewater network renewals will be undertaken. This information will help us plan future works and determine the most suitable renewal methods.
Where possible, we will use trenchless technology to renew the existing pipes from within. This approach reduces the need for excavation, helping to minimise disruption to people living, working and travelling through the area. In some locations, traditional open trench construction may be required; however, this will be limited to areas where it is necessary. The project will also include the refurbishment of associated manholes.
Benefits
Renewing the wastewater network will help:
- Improve the long-term reliability of the wastewater system.
- Reduce the need for unplanned maintenance and repairs.
- Support the continued growth and development of Auckland's city centre.
- Maintain essential wastewater services for people living, working and visiting the area.
- Ensure infrastructure continues to perform well for future generations.
Investigation works
Before renewal works begin, we need to better understand the condition of some sections of the wastewater network.
Investigation works may include CCTV inspections and other assessments to identify the condition of existing pipes. The information gathered will help confirm which sections require renewal and determine the most appropriate construction methods.
What happens next
Once investigations are complete, we will review the CCTV footage confirm the sections of the network that require renewal and develop a programme of works.
Keeping you updated
We will keep residents, businesses and stakeholders informed as the project progresses and provide details about any upcoming works before they begin.
We aim to work closely with the community minimise disruption while these we essential works are carried out.
