Supporting growth and improving the water network's resilience

Location
St Johns
Status

Project overview
To support the growth in your community, we’re installing a new watermain along St Johns Road and a small section of College Road. We’re also upgrading the existing pump station on College Road to improve the water network's resilience.
The new watermain will be installed using a trenchless construction method called Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). This involves opening small sections of the road corridor for the drill and pipeline to move between. Using HDD will reduce the impact on the community as we won’t have to open the road along the full pipeline route.
The two pumps within the existing pump station on College Road will also be upgraded as part of this project. This work will take place within Watercare land.

How will this work affect you?
Our contractors, Pipeline & Civil, will set up their work site at our existing pump station on College Road. There will be an increase of machinery in the area for the duration of the project.
General working hours are Monday-Saturday, 7am-6pm. Work outside of these hours may need to take place at times. We will contact neighbours in advance with more information if required.
Our work sites will be securely fenced off and clearly signposted.
Access to private property will be maintained at all times.
An approved traffic management plan will be in place and clearly signposted. You may notice the following temporary changes:
- Stop/go systems
- Reduced lane widths
- Reduced speed limits
- Reduced parking spaces
- VMS sign boards
- Pedestrian detours/reduced footpath width.
We ask that you follow the direction of traffic management staff and traffic signage to keep everyone safe.
Your water services will not be impacted during the construction phase of the project. Once the work is complete, we will connect the new pipeline into the existing water network with a short, notified shutdown. We will contact any impacted residents in advance with more information.
