Waterview Wastewater Renewals
Watercare is about to begin rehabilitating the Waterview Wastewater Network to improve the integrity of wastewater pipes, significantly reduce overflows, and enhance water quality.
Duration
End of January - July 2026
Location
Waterview, Auckland
Status
Construction
Project Overview
We are rehabilitating existing wastewater pipes using trenchless relining techniques, which allows us to renew pipes with far less digging than traditional replacement methods. Manholes along the pipeline will also be refurbished.
Works will take place across a mix of locations, including:
- public roads and berms
- reserves
- some private properties (where the wastewater network runs through private land)
Where work is required on private property, affected owners will be contacted directly ahead of time.

Where and when we’re working
From 20 May 2026, wastewater relining works are planned in the following streets:
- Herdman Street
- Waterbank Crescent
- Hemington Street
- Torea Road
- Oakley Ave
Works will move progressively along the network as crews complete relining between manholes. Exact timings can vary due to traffic management requirements, access constraints, and coordination with other nearby projects.

How this work may affect you
As construction crews move between manholes, residents may notice temporary and localised impacts, including:
- short term traffic management or lane restrictions
- increased noise during daytime working hours
- occasional wastewater odour near work sites
Noise will be kept within levels approved by Auckland Council, and access to homes will be maintained wherever possible.
These works will not affect your water supply or wastewater services.
Working alongside other projects
There are multiple infrastructure projects underway in Waterview, including stormwater upgrades, flood recovery works, and other planned utility renewals.
Watercare is coordinating closely with Auckland Council and other project teams to minimise disruption and avoid overlapping works where possible.
Benefits
Once complete, these renewals will help ensure wastewater can continue to be safely and reliably conveyed through the network for decades to come, reducing the risk of overflows and improving local environmental outcomes.
