Project overview
We’re upgrading the nearly 100-year-old western water infrastructure which provides drinking water to west and north Auckland. To minimise disruption, we’ll stage the construction over the next 10 years.
Benefits
The upgrades will improve water quality and help protect the local environmental. We’ll also make the system more reliable and better able to cope with things like droughts and extreme weather – so our community is better prepared for what’s ahead.
The Western Water Supply programme will consist of the following projects:
- Replace the Huia Water Treatment Plant
- Upgrade the Huia Raw Watermain
- Upgrade the Lower Nihotupu Raw Water Pump Station
- Replace the Upper Nihotupu Raw Watermain
- Add new reservoirs at Woodlands Park
Construction is expected to begin by 2028.
