We will shortly be starting early works on Greenhithe Bridge as part of the North Harbour 2 (NH2) watermain project.
North Harbour 2 (NH2) is a 33km watermain that will service a population increase of 200,000 people in west and north Auckland. NH2 will provide treated water to cater for growth but also provide resilience by duplicating the existing North Harbour 1 (NH1), including a critical section at the Greenhithe Bridge crossing. NH2 will service peak demands along the network especially in the upper north shore.
Please refer to the map below showing our proposed alignment for NH2.

While our main construction works for the NH2 project are still a while away, our contractor will commence early works under Greenhithe Bridge as part of the NH2 project from mid to late September 2025. These works involve structural support works in preparation for when we lay the new watermain under Greenhithe Bridge.
While we carry out these works, there will be some temporary impacts on the cycleway.
Our contractor will need to access our site compound (as shown on the map below). This will involve vehicles accessing the cycle way from Tauhinu Road, Greenhithe and driving down to the site compound for approximately 10-15 minutes during the morning and afternoon.
A high-level overview of these works is shown below.

From mid to late September 2025 to April 2026
There will be short term interruption to the cycleway during the morning and afternoon periods while vehicles access and leave the site. These temporary closures are not expected to be longer than five minutes at a time.
- Working hours will be from Monday to Friday 7.30am-4.30pm. Work on Saturday will only be utilised if required.
- Impacts to the cycle way will only occur from 7.00am-7.30am and 4.00pm-4.30pm.
No works from 18 December 2025 to 12 January 2026. There will be no works and no impact on the cycleway during this period.
From November 2025 to April 2026
- Night works may take place periodically between 9.00pm and 5.00am. During this period, the cycleway on the bridge will be interrupted by a stop/go operation. This will allow continued flow for pedestrians and cyclists while works are carried out.

From September 10, Watercare and our contractors will begin work to upgrade a section of watermain along Keegan Drive, Massey (see map below). - These works are expected to take approximately five to complete.
- Work hours will typically be from 7.00am – 7.00pm, Monday to Friday.
- While the work may generate some noise, please be assured that it will be kept to a minimum and within levels approved by Auckland Council.
- Toward the end of the project, we will need to undertake a water shutdown. We will notify affected parties five days in advance, and it will be planned at a time that will minimise disruption.
- The water meter serving your property may be replaced during these renewal works. If we need to access your property you will be notified in advance.
You may also notice the following temporary changes along Keegan Drive and surrounding streets in Massey:
o Reduced on street parking
o Reduced lane widths
o Reduced speed limits
o Pedestrian detours or reduced footpath width
o Stop/Go traffic control in operation

Watercare will be filling and flushing as well as pressure testing the new Nihotupu 1 watermain in Kaurilands Road.
Most noticeable will be next Wednesday, 24 September, where there will be a large water discharge to a manhole on Kaurilands Road that may be noticeable to passersby. If anyone sees this there is no need to report it as it is not a leak.
This will not impact water supply or water pressure to nearby properties.

We would like to provide an update about the Nihotupu 1 watermain project which started in late May 2025.
Project background
The original Nihotupu 1 watermain was laid around 1905 with predominantly cast-iron pipe. Water is pumped from the Titirangi Reservoirs to the Nihotupu Reservoir and supplies approximately 18,000 elevated customers in Laingholm and Titirangi.
Due to the age and condition of the existing Nihotupu 1 watermain it needs to be replaced.
The overall construction timeframe for these works is from late May until late 2025. The majority of these works are in the Titirangi area.
Please refer to the overall site map for the works for the entire project

Update on current works
Our contractor for the project March Cato has been busy working on various sections in the Titirangi area since late May 2025. Works include a bulk supply point on Atkinson Road and watermain construction on Kaurilands Road, Daffodil Street and Konini Road.
These works are progressing well and are on track to be completed by approximately mid-October 2025.
Upcoming sections of works on Scenic Drive and Huia Road, Titirangi
From Tuesday 5 August 2025, our contractor March Cato and City Contractors will begin works for a watermain on a section of Scenic Drive, Huia Road and a small section of Kohu Road. On Tuesday 5 August we will setup our traffic management as shown on the map below. On Wednesday 6 August we will start investigations to locate existing services in the road corridor.
Thursday 7 August 2025, our crew will start construction works.
For these works we will be undertaking night works from the hours of 8pm to 5am.
Please refer to the map below showing the works area and the extent of our closure

Traffic management will be in place in the form of stop-go operation during the night shift. During the day access will be maintained in both directions.
These sections of works are estimated to take approximately two months to complete.
How will this affect you?
- Working hours will be from 8pm to 5am Monday to Sunday.
- Traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop-go operation during our night shifts.
- Some street parking will need to be temporarily removed near the work site to allow traffic management to be setup as part of the approved traffic management plan.
- Construction works will generate some noise and vibration; however, levels will be kept to a minimum and in accordance with Auckland Council and consent requirements.
- Please note that water supply to properties will not be affected during these works.
We understand that construction for major projects such as this one can be disruptive. We aim to be a good neighbour while we’re working in your area and will work with you to minimise disruption where we can.
We will also be out in your community during works, ensuring signage and information is clear to residents and traffic. Thank you for your patience while we undertake these important works.
We take our commitment to our customers seriously. We know that our infrastructure projects can at times be disruptive, so our team always tries their best to mitigate any potential issues and respond promptly to complaints. We want to make sure that we are continually improving how we deliver our projects to better benefit Auckland’s communities. Please let us know what we did well and where we can do better.
