Why is the project needed?

We are undertaking upgrades to the water network to cater for current and future development along with population growth. The current water network cannot cater for any further growth in the Waikōwhai/Mt Roskill area. This project will enable 4,000 dwellings that are proposed by Kainga Ora, plus 170 infill dwellings within the Waikōwhai/Mt Roskill area.

Please refer to the overall site works map showing upcoming sections of work, work in progress and completed sections.

Construction from the Dominion Road/Richardson roundabout to the proposed Akarana pump station

From Tuesday 12 March 2024 until late May 2024 our crew will be starting works from the Dominion Road/Richardson Road roundabout towards the proposed Akarana pump station (which is currently being constructed at 1374 Dominion Road).

Traffic management will be setup (as shown on the map below) down the centre of Dominion Road. Traffic will still be able to travel in a northbound and southbound direction, but please expect delays.

We appreciate your patience while we undertake these important works.

Please refer to the map below for the section of work and traffic management in place.

  • Traffic management will be in place 24/7 during construction for the safety of the public, traffic, and our workers. Resident vehicle access in the excavation area may be restricted during working hours. The traffic controllers on site will advise when you can get past. Please expect delays. Vehicle access may be unavailable for properties near the open excavations. Construction at the Dominion Road/Richardson Road roundabout/intersection

On 9 January 2024, our crew started works at the Dominion Road/Richardson Road roundabout. These works are progressing well, and we anticipate these works (as shown on the map below) will be completed by mid-February 2024 (weather dependent).

Following the completion of the works above, from mid-February 2024 our contractor plans to construct a line valve chamber within the same closure (shown on the map below). These works are estimated to take two weeks to complete (finished by early March 2024, weather dependent).

Following the construction of the line valve chamber we will then proceed to lay the new watermain from the Dominion Road/Richardson Road intersection to connect into the Akarana pump station at 1374 Dominion Road (adjacent to the Akarana Golf Club). We will provide more details of these works in the coming weeks.

Traffic management is in place in the form of lane closures and detours around the works area. Please note there will be 24/7 traffic light signals when unattended. VMS boards are also up in the area advising of the works and notifying that all businesses are open as usual.

Please refer to the map below for the section of work and traffic management in place (the working area is shown in green and yellow shows the extent of the traffic management/safety zone in place)
